Deimos Castilla la Mancha leads
the NEPTUNO Project “Advanced
System of Global Maritime Surveillance
based on Constellation of Low Orbit Satellites”

NEPTUNO is an R & D Project in which innovative technologies such as 3D printing, incorporation of new materials, artificial intelligence and intelligent sensorization will be developed to make a demonstrator that contributes to a solution that faces the main challenges of maritime surveillance.

The NEPTUNO project will respond to current and future maritime security challenges through the experimental development of a LEO (Low Earth Orbit – 200-2000 km altitude) and low-orbit (CubeSats) constellation prototype and an advanced information system capable of analysing the millions of data acquired by ground stations using artificial intelligence technologies. The NEPTUNO intelligent system will be able to detect potentially criminal behaviour patterns and assign a dangerous profile to each watercraft. It will also have an automatic alert system that will notify in real time the potentially criminal actions that are taking place.

Deimos Castilla la Mancha leads the NEPTUNO Project “Advanced System of Global Maritime Surveillance based on Constellation of Low Orbit Satellites” ITC-20181151 of the FEDER-INNTERCONECTA Program granted in the 2018 Call.

To validate the space segment, a complete satellite will be developed and put into orbit, which will include innovative technologies such as 3D printing, incorporation of new materials in satellites and smart solar panels for the acquisition and management of energy on board. A prototype ground station capable of operating and monitoring the satellite and downloading the data (ground segment) will also be developed. Finally, a command and control centre for the management and analysis of the millions of data acquired with artificial intelligence technologies will also be developed.
